PARLIAMENTARY AND POLITICAL AFFAIRS DIVISION

Objective
To coordinate political affairs, parliamentary affairs and national security.

Functions
-To coordinate and monitor all issues related to the work of parliament;
-To monitor National Defence and Security Agencies and advise the Government accordingly; and
-To monitor the political atmosphere prevailing both within and outside the country and advise accordingly.
-The Parliamentary and Political Affairs Division is comprising of the three sections as follows:

.Parliamentary Affairs Section;
.Political Affairs Section; and
.Extra Parliamentary Affairs Section.

Parliamentary Affairs Section
The Section is performing the following activities:
-Coordinate, manage and follow-up all issues related to the work of
-Parliament during normal and schedule sessions, which have a
bearing on the role of government in Parliament;
-Analyse requests and reports on the creation of constituencies and
advise accordingly;
-Compile and prepare reports on issues raised during Parliamentary
sessions for follow-up and implementation by relevant ministries; and
-Coordinate and make a follow-up on implementation of government
commitments made during parliamentary sessions.

Political Affairs Section
The Section is performing the following activities:
-Attend to all issues pertaining to political parties including subventions, complaints and grievances;
-Liaise with National Electoral Commission and Registrar of Political
-Parties on issues relating to the National elections and registration of
political parties;
-Make analysis of the political atmosphere prevailing both within and outside the country and advise accordingly;
-Compile and prepare reports on the implementation of the election
manifesto of the ruling political party;
-Attend to complaints and grievances arising from the public; and
Collaborate with other government organs, regions, districts and independent organizations on complaints and allegations raised against them for appropriate solutions.

Extra Parliamentary Affairs Section
The Section is performing the following activities:
-Advice the government on issues pertaining to national security;
-Advice the government on the laws governing organizational structures and operations of the National Defence and Security Agencies;
-Attend meetings of the Parliamentary Defence and Security
-Committee and prepare implementation reports for the Government;
-Analyse reports from security and defence organs and advise the government accordingly;
-Collaborate with security and defence organs to follow-up implementation of government directives; and
-Coordinate issues pertaining to corruption in the Prime Minister’s Office
